The Seventeenth Event of 2018
The Headcorn Aerodrome & Memorial Museum ~ 15th July

Our annual visit to The Headcorn Aerodrome was as interesting as ever. We enjoyed a reserved area right beside the runway with enough space to set up our picnics behind our cars and entertain a few guests and family members. The heat wave we are enjoying continued but the heat was tempered with a welcome breeze.

We parked facing outwards which enabled some shots of our motor cars with  aeroplanes in the background. This was not one-hundred percent successful as many of the  planes had not taken off when they went down the runway behind our cars so the dramatic shot of car with plane above them will have to wait until next time. That said, here are a few shots of the day, some with planes in the background!

 The Twelth Event of 2018
The Battle Of Britain Memorial Museum ~ 10th June

The Battle of Britain Memorial Trust has extended a warm welcome to the RREC South Eastern Section for the past four years. We have enjoyed every visit and many different weather patterns over the years, perfect sunshine, fog, sea mist and today a mixture of sun, wind and cloud.

We always enjoy the site and show our respects to the heroes of the Battle of Britain by viewing the marble wall of names - this is a unique site of pilgrimage, the National Memorial to the Few and ideal for quiet reflection, atop the famous White Cliffs and  superb views across the Channel to France when the weather allows.  The central statue of a lone pilot is complemented by the Christopher Foxley-Norris Memorial Wall, two replica aircraft and other items of interest.

 The Eleventh Event of 2018
 Doddington Place ~ 3rd June
Hot on the heals of our May Rally to Somerset was the picnic and bird display in the grounds of Doddington Place. Lots of motor cars and lots of members enjoyed a return visit to this special place hidden in the country side between the A 20 and the A2 in Kent.  Doddington Place has been the home of the Oldfield family for a century.  The many-gabled brick house was designed by the Victorian architect Charles Brown Trollope and built around1860 for Sir John Croft of the port and sherry family.

In 1873 Markham Nesfield (1842-74), son of the better known garden designer William Andrews Nesfield (1793-1881), designed the formal terrace next to the house for Sir John Croft.  Nothing remains now of his detailed planting plans.

Today the gardens still evoke the Edwardian spirit of the next owner of Doddington Place, Mrs. Douglas Jeffreys (nee Oldfield) who was responsible for much of the architectural detail and layout of the heart of the garden.

 The Tenth Event of 2018
The Quantock Rally ~ A Week In Somerset ~ 22nd to 27th May
Our May Rally was based at The Castle Hotel in Taunton. It was a six-day holiday and every day was a driving delight along the pretty roads around the county of Somerset towards the next new venue. These included, The Wetlands Centre, Dunster Castle, a private railway coach on the West Somerset Railway with lunch and a cream tea, Horse Drawn Barge trip and The new Haynes Motor Museum.

Thirty Six members participated and between them drove twenty cars from a 1934 Rolls-Royce 20/25 through to Clouds, Shadows, Corniches, Spirits, Spurs, Dawns, Bentley Continental GTC's, two Goodwood Phantoms and a Bentley Continental GTC  V8.

The Castle Hotel was a wonderful choice and they looked after us very well indeed.

Our Ninth Section Event of 2018
 The South Of England Rally
Brooklands Historic Motor Museum
This event is one of three major gatherings for the club which are held eveny year in the south, the North and the centre of England.

The first of the three was the South Of England Rally held o 13th May at the Brooklands Historic Motor Museum.  The participants who expected 'another 'Motor-Museum' were in for a surprise. There was so much to see and do at Brooklands we could all have stayed a second day and still not see everything.

I managed to capture a few shots of the many cars attending, the people and the prize giving. I hope we return to Brooklands soon.

Our Eighth Section Event of 2018
New Members Lunch  at  Sweetwoods Golf Club
Nr. Holtye, Kent.
This event is our chance to welcome new members to the RREC and The South Eastern Section. The expected rain held off but the dull overcast weather made one feel winter had returned. It was most  encouraging therefore to see a healthy 55 advanced members bookings and on the day,17club cars parked in our reserved parking area. Two people did not arrive but 53 people sitting down to lunch was excellent.

This was our fifth yearly visit to Sweetwoods and I expect we will return in 2019 if the venue can find a few more staff!  I managed to capture most the the cars and the arrival of one beautiful and very rare Bentley Continental S1 Fastback by H J Mulliner.

Our Third Section Event of 2018
Lunch  at  The  Boughton Golf Club
Nr. Canterbury, Kent.
This event was held in the grounds of The Boughton Golf Club near Canterbury. The expected snow held off and the welcome sun shone upon us encouraging a good display of Rolls-Royce and Bentley motor cars driven by members to the event. Around 40 people and 12 cars attended including a recent purchase, a Phantom VII in black.

This was another first visit for our section and one that we immediately re-booked for a lunch in 2019. The photographs below capture some of the the people and their cars.   We did not have to play golf to eat here and that was a good thing! The private room was excellent and the staff efficient, the three course meal was as good as any we have had at other Golf Course restaurants with the added bonus of views of the surrounding Kentish countryside from the patio area just outside our dining room doors.

 The Second Event of 2018
Lunch  at  The  Grange Moor Hotel ~ Maidstone
Our second event of 2018 was another well attended, successful lunch. The cold day did not stop 44 people attending, nor did it stop some of them from driving their club cars to The hotel to take a
place in the partitioned section of the car park exclusively for our Rolls-Royce and Bentley motor cars.

This was a new venue for us and one, I am certain, we will add to next years Calendar of Events. The record in photographs, below, shows a rare winter lunch 'Group Photo.' It was taken because the hotels fire alarm sounded just as we finished our starters. We left
the building and we all assembled in the car park.

This was an excellent lunch, well managed and run and all at a very reasonable price. The next event is Boughton Golf Club Lunch, Nr Faversham on Sunday 25th February.
Return the flyer with your payment and 'see you there.'

 The First Event of 2018
Lunch  at  The  Weald  of  Kent  Golf  Club
Our first event was a real success. Wonderful winter sunshine and
not a hint of rain. And then the members very kindly drove their club cars to the venue to build an excelent display of 20 perfect motor cars.  The photographs record today and some of the last shots show a few cars in the late afternoon setting sun.
This is a venue that every one asked, hopes we return to in 2019.
A happy new year to you all.

The South Eastern Section AGM
Our premier event of the year, attended by over 80 members and friends.  The key speaker was the deputy Chairman Johan Vanden Bergh from RREC head office, who updated the audience with news of the Club and all its recent activities. Over 20 Rolls-Royce and Bentleys were parked in very straight lines and a few more here and there.  Here are some of the photographs taken

The National Classic Car Show at the NEC is not a South Eastern Section Event but one attended by the RREC head office to encourage people to join our wonderful Club.   A few of your Sections Committee attend each year to help out a little, talk to the public and encourage them to join the RREC.  We attend to show our support to the Hunt House Staff who work so hard at this 4-day event. It is also the perfect place to meet many of our advertisers and thank them for their continued support.  Here are some of the many photographs taken
